Major Activities/Projects – past and present

1. Our very first project was the creation of the Luisianians of the East Coast Website

                (http://www.pametny.org/Luisianians.htm) 
 
and group email (Luisianians_East_Coast@yahoogroups.com). Almost all of our announcements of past and future 
events are done thru this group email communication. Our website has a CHAT ROOM intended for future meetings 
or USTINGAN on the Web. 
 
2. Scholarship - In the past, we awarded scholarship to some needy but deserving youths from Luisiana to acquire a high school 
education. Starting this year(2004), our association will support a college scholar who will enroll at SLPC (Lucban, Quezon). 
Class 67 Foundation will administer our project. An announcement will be made and applications will be accepted until 
March. Here are the criteria for the selection:
 
   A. Interested applicants are advised to take the SLPC entrance exams.
   B. All applicants who pass the exam are then subjected to an evaluation process for final selection.  
 
Criteria used for final selection are as follows:
   a. Financial condition of applicants’ family; 
   b. Performance/rating in the SLPC entrance exams; and
   c. High School average grade (4th year).

3. Our association hosted the Fifth Luisiana Worldwide Grand Reunion last July 6-8, 2007 in Fairfax, Virginia. Click here to see the website. To see the collage of the reunion activities, click here

5. Our association hosted the Luisianians International meeting in New York City last May 30 to 31, 2008.

All attendees joined the Philippine Independence Day Parade last June 1, 2008. Our association's float garnered the "Most Meaningful Float award. To see the web page please click here.

Luisianians of the East Coast-is the Recipient of the Consul General's Plaque for depicting region's native products: Hats and Ternos made out of PANDAN. Donated by Consul General Cecilia B. Rebong 

 

 
6. In partnership with Ridgewood Salvation Army, we started our "Gift Giving" to the sick children in the hospital, to the disabled and elderly patients in 
Nursing Homes last December 2004. This has been our ongoing project around Christmas time.

7. Our Luisianians' Family Tree on the Web project has been launched and is now operational. It shows data collected up to December 31, 2008. Out of privacy concerns the web pages are password protected. Access is limited to Luisianians or those who traced their roots to Luisiana, Laguna, Philippines. An "opt out" system was set up for people who would like to keep their information private. Those families whose names are missing but would like to be included are encouraged to do some research of their own in order to be a part of the Family Tree.  Just click Luisiana Family Tree and you can freely check your genealogy. If your data need correction please send email to evangelinerobles@yahoo.com  or srobles718@gmail.com

 

8. Luisiana Bantay Bata Project.- Luisianians of the East Coast started this project. Purine Santos and Vangie Robles seek the help of the different associations 
based in New York City. Arjohn, who has a congenital heart problem was placed on the waiting list of the Gift of Life. After one year of waiting, the association 
decided to involve the Luisianians International.Association which was formed in Canada Reunion on July 2005. Click here for more info
 
9. Last March 29, 2009 Medical Dental Mission of the Luisiana Women's Club, Luisianians of the East Coast donated 50 wooden canes or walking sticks for the senior citizens. (Click here for more pictures)

10. During the Luisiana Women's Club mass Induction of Officers by Mayor Manuel Rondilla, Luisianians of the East Coast donated volleyball set to the 23 Barangays.

11. Donation to Luisiana Adventist Elementary School was given to the principal, Mrs. Herminia C. Garcia last March 2009. 

 
12. Our association donated four (4) lamp posts in Rizal Park along Rizal Street. Pictures of the lamp posts can be seen below.

                                     

 

13. Donations were given to the families affected by Typhoon Ondoy last November 23, 2009. Click here to see the pictures.

14. Two units of brand new computers were donated to Luisiana Public Library. Received by Hon. Mayor Manuel R. Rondilla on November 23, 2009.
